Admissions and First Steps

When you know how rehab admissions work, the path into treatment becomes much more manageable

Beginning a residential addiction treatment programme can feel overwhelming, especially when you are unsure what the admissions process involves. At Raglan Reconnection Retreat, we keep each step simple, transparent, and supportive so you know exactly how to get into rehab, what information you need, and what the first 24 hours in rehab will actually look like. From the first phone call right through to settling in on arrival day, we’ve got you covered.

The first step: Your initial pre-assessment

The admissions journey begins with a relaxed phone, video, or in-person conversation. This is where we get to know you and understand what has been happening in your life. You can ask as many questions as you like, and we will explain how the programme works and what support options are available.

If you wish, you are welcome to visit the retreat before committing to anything. Walking the grounds, meeting the team, and experiencing the calm environment often helps people feel more grounded about the decision to begin treatment.

A deeper look: Your in-depth assessment

Once you decide to move forward, we will complete a more detailed assessment. This conversation explores your goals, your history with substances, any past treatment, your current wellbeing, and the type of support that will best suit you.

This discussion is carefully documented and becomes the foundation of your personalised treatment plan. If detox is required, we gather information about your current medications and note what medical or clinical support may be needed once you arrive.

Confirming your placement and start date

When you feel ready to begin, we look at availability and confirm a date that works for both you and the team. Once this is confirmed, your place in the programme is secured. From there, we walk you through exactly what happens next and how to prepare. We only host a maximum of four people at one time to ensure you have a deeply personal experience.

Your rehab checklist

To help you arrive feeling organised and calm, we provide a simple rehab checklist. Before coming to the retreat, you should bring your prescribed medications in pharmacy packaging, pack comfortable clothing and toiletries, collect personal items such as a journal or headphones, notify key people such as employers or landlords, and provide your GP details.

We ask that restricted items be left at home. Transport arrangements can be made in advance if needed. Most importantly, know that we have wellbeing protocols in place to support you from the moment you reach the retreat.

What to expect in the first 24 hours in rehab

Your first day is designed to help you settle in gently. When you arrive, we take you through a calm orientation, help you unpack, and introduce you to the team who will be supporting you throughout your stay. If your medical assessment has not already taken place, this will be completed soon after arrival. This includes a health baseline, discussion of symptoms, and any medications required for detox or ongoing care.

Once you are settled, we begin the clinical process at your pace. This may include starting prescribed medication, completing documentation, and beginning detoxification if needed. You will be monitored closely, and every symptom or concern is noted so we can respond immediately. The focus of your first 24 hours is rest, nourishment, hydration, and gentle reassurance. You are not expected to do anything beyond looking after yourself while we take care of the rest.

Our commitment to confidentiality

Your privacy is protected from the moment you reach out. All assessments, health details, and personal information remain confidential unless there is a serious risk of harm or a legal requirement to disclose. Family updates are only shared if you choose to provide consent. Group environments operate with a strong emphasis on respect and confidentiality, so everyone feels safe and supported.

If you are unsure whether now is the right time to begin, our addiction self-assessment tool can help you take the next step with clarity.
